Promote Your Website Online And Attract More Visitors To Your Website Without Changing Pages And Code—Do It All With Your Browser!

Your Website Keywords

Making your Website popular with Search Engines and Directories is the most effective method of attracting visitors. The first search tool that you must create and develop is a list of your Keywords.

On the "Writing the Copy" page, you will have seen the section on writing and using keywords for each of your pages—you can check it again: Click Here

There are software programs that you can use to help you find and utilize the best Keywords for your Website. One of the most popular is Word Tracker, which many of the Internet millionaires use for their Websites.

Build Large Keyword Lists

Although most Search Engines will only read the first 10 or 20 Keyword Meta Tags on each page, you really need a large list of suitable Keywords. These can later be used for pay per click advertising and promotion.

An excellent, free online tool that you can use to learn the popularity of your Keywords, and to build your Keyword lists, is Overture Tools —try it now!

Your Meta Tags

You may find creating and inserting your various Meta Tags to be difficult and very tedious. However, as always, professional help is at hand.

The four most important Meta Tags are:

  1. Title: The title of the page that appears in the very top bar of each Window
  2. Description: A two or three sentence description of the page contents
  3. Keywords: A list of the 10 - 20 important keywords and phrases on the page
  4. Robots: Instructions for robot spiders to index the page and follow links

They are simple to write in HTML, and an example is given below.

Title of the Page

The order of the words is almost as important as the actual content, which must be a concise and accurate description of what a visitor can expect to find on the page. The order is important, because the first words will show in the Web Browser tabs, and many people make the mistake of putting their company or domain name first.

If the visitor opens a number of tabs for your Website, they will each show the same name on the tab, which makes it hard to use. Try to select a maximum of 3 words that quickly describe the page contents as the start of your title.

You only need to write a 10 - 15 word title, because after that they will probably not display, and they are too long for most Search Engines.

We use the page heading, or at least the early part of the heading if it is a long one, and in HTML it looks like this:

<title>Promote Your Website Online And Attract More Visitors To Your Website</title>

This ensures that the first word in the Web Browser tab is "Promote" and possibly "Your Website" may show.

Page Description

Continuity is the name of the game, and once again use the page Header for the opening of your page description. This is the text that will show on the results page of a Search Engine like Google or Yahoo.

You can then add one or two more sentences that summarise the contents of your page.

<meta name="Description" content="Promote your website online and attract more visitors to your website without changing pages and code—do it all with your browser! Page Keywords

Never include a keyword that does not appear on the page, and never indiscriminately pepper your page with a keyword, always use them with relevance.

The simplest way to write them in HTML is by separating each keyword or phrase with a comma. The example below shows you how we have entered the keywords for this page.

<meta name="Keywords" content="Website, Website promotion, Web Browser, Keywords, keyword list, Website links, link popularity, Meta Tags, Page Title, Page Description, PPC, pay per click, Google advertising, Overture tools" />

Robot Instructions

You must include a simple text file in your root directory that informs robots about the folders they must not follow, and then they will automatically follow and index all other folders and files.

However, it does not hurt to include the following Meta Tag on each page that you want the Search Engine robot to read:

<meta name="robots" content="index, follow" />

Where the file is a duplicate "landing page" that you use for PPC advertising or other purposes, you should include an instruction to stop the robots from reading that page. Search Engines penalise Website with duplicate content or pages. Use the following simple Meta Tag in place of the example above:

<meta name="robots" content="no index, no follow" />

The text file for robots that you must place in your root folder is named robots.txt and will have content like the following example:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /fgr56-Tg09/
Disallow: /assets/
Disallow: /forms/
Disallow: /offers/
Disallow: /cgi-bin/

The /cgi-bin/ folder contains scripts and the /fgr56-Tg09/ folder might be the one with your download files like eBooks and software, and you do not want Search Engines to read and display their content to the world!

Link Popularity

Once your Website has been running for six months or so, you should test your link popularity. If you've paid for a lot of Search Engine promotion and click advertising, you may want to do this much earlier.

You can use online services such as:

Paying For Promotion

You will find hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Websites that are only too willing to take your money to promote your Website to thousands of Search Engines. However, many of the Search Engines that accept these mass uploads are extremely small when compared to the giants in the industry, and are likely to be far less effective.

A far better way to pay for promotion with a Search Engine, is to go to their Website and pay for a premium submission. This way you can be sure that your pages will be indexed and available within a short time for all visitors.

The use of pay-per-click advertising on Search Engines is currently very successful, and one of the Website that we manage—Topdeck.UK.com—has more enquiries than they can handle each month!
