New Guides Added to Quick Reference Guides Section
The newest quick reference guides are: Self-Editing Guide, Need-to-Know Grammar, Cliches "to avoid like the plague," and Proofreaders' Marks. The Self-Editing Guide lists tips to help writers edit/proofread their own work. Need-to-Know Grammar is a list of basic grammar that everyone should know (everyone who would like to improve his/her writing skills). The cliches page is a list of cliches -- overused -- expressions that make writing dull. This is an ongoing list. More cliches will be added. The Writing Tutor accepts suggestions from visitors. The proofreaders' marks page lists and defines each of the copy editing symbols used in journalism and publishing. Proofreaders' marks ensure that the writer and the editor understand each other.
Professional Writing and Editing Services
In addition to teaching writing, The Writing Tutor is also a professional writer offering professional writing services to large and small businesses, organizations, educational institutions, publications, and individuals. Taking advantage of professional writing services saves your organization time and ensures that you reach your target audience.
Articles
The Writing Tutor's collection of articles is intended to inform, inspire, and entertain. The selection of articles is divided into the following categories: education, action research (education research), literary criticism, parenting, and writing.
Current Events and Education News
The Writing Tutor can help you with your educational research needs. This is the place for The Writing Tutor news, education news, and current events. Read the most recent press releases issued by The Writing Tutor or check out today's headlines from The New York Times and USA Today. Topics include national and world news, as well as education news and news about the arts and science.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling discussed in Online Literature Circle
Good writers are readers. To this end, The Writing Tutor dedicates itself to promoting reading as well as writing. The newest discussion topic is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling’s sixth installment in the Harry Potter series. The release of the most recent book in the Harry Potter series is the perfect opportunity for educators to push reading since so many children (and adults) love the series. To encourage reading and literary discussion, The Readers’ Corner Book Club has posted the question: “What did you think of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince?” For a little added fun, The Writing Tutor has also included a survey asking people how quickly they read the book.
